Refresher on calculating a Market Cap
According to Investopedia: http://www.investopedia.com/articles/basics/03/031703.asp
“Market capitalization is just a fancy name for a straightforward concept: it is the market value of a company's outstanding shares. This figure is found by taking the stock price and multiplying it by the total number of shares outstanding.”
So if we have a stock price of $0.38 and total shares of 72.07 mil the calculation looks like this: 0.38 x 72,070,000 = 27,386,600 rounded the market cap is 27.39 mil
Understanding how the Market Capitalization number is affected by Public Shares vs Private Shares
All very straight forward up to this point, but there is a catch and it has to do with what makes up the Shares number. In the base data there are two types of shares, these are public shares and private shares. The Stockhouse Quote page displays only one of these share values, called simply “Shares” and it represent the Public Shares. At this time the Private Shares are not displayed.
However we do show Market Cap values that are calculated on both share types:
Mkt Cap is calculated as: stock price x (Public Shares + Private shares) = a Market Cap that includes both the Public and hidden Private Shares
Mkt Cp Less Prv Shrs is calculated as stock price x public shares = a Market Cap that is based on the displayed share price and only Public shares
While we don’t display a (Private Shares + Public Shares) value, you can calculate the total shares issued:
Resolve for X* 0.38=28,100,000 answer is X = 73,947,368 total shares issued
To find just the private shares subtract the public Shares: 73,947,368 - 72,070,000 = 1,877,368 private shares
